At Exeter Choral Society (formerly Whipton Choral Society), we enthusiastically celebrated 75 years of choral singing in 2018! We have curated an exhibition 'Live and Vocal', and recorded memories of the life and times of the choir from its early beginnings during World War II, when Exeter was a garrison city, to the present time when the choir continues to grow and thrive.
The choir and guests celebrated this anniversary at a special party and an open day in October 2018 at St Stephen's Church (where we used to rehearse for many years before the church renovation).
Our celebrations concluded on 1 December 2018 with a performance at Southernhay United Reformed Church of Mendelssohn's Elijah - a work that has been popular with the choir over its 75 years; Elijah was performed by Whipton Choral Society in 1957 (see the poster above).
