Lauence Blyth

Laurence Blyth was a scholarship holder at the University of Exeter (where he read music) and director of the University Singers. He graduated in 2007 and subsequently worked as Master of the Choristers at Bramdean School and director of Exeter University Brass Ensemble. Laurence has been the Musical Director of Exeter Choral Society since 2008 and is a member of staff at Stephen Connolly's new International Acappella School. He is a postgraduate student at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff where he studies Choral Conducting with Adrian Partington and Simon Halsey. In 2009 he directed the choir for the studio recording of "And a little child shall lead: Santiago's dream" with iconic saxophonist Raphael Ravenscroft and conducted the first public performance at Exeter Cathedral in September 2009. As a countertenor Laurence spent a year in the choir of Truro Cathedral and has sincec taken masterclasses with Emma Kirkby at Dartington Summer School in 2007, supported by the Heathcoat Trust. He is a Lay Vicar in Exeter Cathedral Choir and has performed a wide range of repertoire across the South West as a soloist including works by Bach, Haydn, Vivaldi and Purcell including the duet 'Sound the Trumpet' with James Bowman in 2007. He was almost certainly the first countertenor to sing at Exeter's Timepiece nightclub.
